New Year’s Resolutions: Whether you make them or not, we all know there’s something exciting about the feeling of a fresh start. How do you plan to give back to yourself, to others, or to the Earth this year? Tell us your 2012 resolutions on Facebook and our gift to you will be a $25 gift certificate to Prancing Leopard.
New year’s resolutions are unique to each person, as we all have different ambitions and hopes for our lives. Many resolutions focus on personal improvement while others may be more focused on giving back to others, whether through charity or community service, or even giving back to our Earth. Becoming more conscious of our lifestyle’s impact on our planet and trying to improve is an important resolution this year and every year.
But it is important for us and everyone to keep those goals in mind everyday, and not just when the calendar changes to January 1st.
The point of new year’s resolutions, it seems, should not be a one-time, succeed- or- fail situation, but rather a reminder of the things we truly want, all year long.

When shopping for pants for work, play, or workouts, there are certain attributes that are just a given. We all want our clothes to fit and look good obviously, but what about beyond that? What else matters to you?
Some of the things we’ve been hearing that pants should or shouldn’t do:
-shouldn’t bind or squeeze the life out of you (no muffin tops please!)
-fit and not swallow you in a sea of fabric
-be stylish enough to wear when you leave the studio as you run errands or see friends
-be cute and comfortable to lounge in
-be made of a great fabric
Tell us on Facebook, what are your must-have attributes in a workout pant? Style, length, fabric, etc?

Pencil Pesticide! So now even your pencils are coated with pesticides, in this case Triclosan, a suspected carcinogen, allergen, endocrine-disruptor, pre-cursor to dioxin and chloroform.

Imagine our surprise when we received an order of Ticonderoga Pencils, and on the boxes was the information this product contains MICROBAN, which is a brand of Triclosan, an FDA regulated Pesticide. Triclosan is added to the pencil paint to “inhibit the growth of odor and stain causing bacteria on the pencil”.
But then we read about Triclosan in Wikipedia and the New York Times (article: Antibacterial Chemical Raises Safety Issues, August 19th, 2011 - click here). Triclosan is under review by the FDA. This is because various studies have identified Triclosan as a possible hormone-disruptor, carcinogen, allergen and a pre-cursor to dioxin.
How many of us either remember chewing on pencils, or have children who do so?? We believe reputable companies should shy away from making products with pesticides.
Further tidbits:
- Representative Edward J. Markey, Democrat from Massachusetts, has called for a ban on triclosan in hand soaps, in products that come in contact with food AND IN PRODUCTS MARKETED TO CHILDREN.
- In August 2009, the Canadian Medical Association asked the Canadian government to ban triclosan use in household products under concerns of creating bacterial resistance and producing dangerous side products (chloroform).
- A household paint manufacturer has voluntarily removed Triclosan from their paints.
- Colgate-Palmolive replaced triclosan with lactic acid in Palmolive Antibacterial Dish Liquid, and its Softsoap liquid hand soap has been reformulated without the chemical.

Not long ago, we asked all of you what was important when purchasing a pair of pants. Overwhelmingly you told us that a flattering cut was absolutely the most important thing. We couldn’t agree more! The right cut makes a huge difference in every piece of your wardrobe.
As some of you may know, we’re planning to roll out lots of new styles this year, and some of them will be launching very soon! We’ve already shown you a sneak peak of our Cremona Circle Sleeve Jacket and next we’ll be sharing….
Our Geneve Pants!

These pants are perfect for exercise, yoga, Pilates, or just throwing on anytime! Straight leg design through the hips and legs is super flattering on every figure, while a loose banded bottom ensures that these pants don’t get in your way. The waistband is what truly makes these pants special. While it appears to be a normal fold-over waistband, this is just one smooth piece that you don’t have to worry about fussing with! Asymmetrical design and fun colors add style to a great pair of pants.
Use these to brighten your wardrobe. You’ll never want to take them off!
Let us know on Facebook what you think of the Geneve Pants! Do these hit the mark in terms of “flattering cut”? What else are you hoping to see Sevda come up with?
