Women Artisan Project
Prancing Leopard Organics founded the Women Artisan Project as a commitment to helping women in underserved communities. By working to help keep their creative heritage alive, we strive to empower the women with self-confidence, independence and their own income. Prancing Leopard Organics seeks to maximize the income of these women, we share the profits from the sales of these items listed with them.
Our founder Sevda provides design and fashion guidance to the women so that their crafts are relevant to our modern life style, while still respecting the handicraft traditions. One of our most important roles is to provide the women with organic material for use in their designs. Organic materials are quickly disappearing from these communities and are being replaced by synthetic materials. Organic materials better reflect the beautiful, centuries old craftsmanship and allow the design to be as true to tradition as possible.
Currently Prancing Leopard Organics is working with Artisan women groups in Turkey, knitting Legwarmers, Ballet Slippers, Princess Slippers, Free-Toes Socks, Sultan’s Rosebud Crochet Necklace and the Hand-Knit Infinity Scarf.
We seek to expand our network of Artisan women groups. You can help us build our network by emailing your specific suggestions including which type of artisan tradition, geographic location and underserved community. We would love to hear from you! Please contact us.
Prancing Leopard Organics welcomes your ideas how we can promote social justice and empowerment.
